Veterinary Exam

A veterinary exam (also called a wellness exam) helps us to stay up-to-date with your pet’s health. We recommend social visits before their annual appointment for your pet to get used to our hospital. In addition to helping us create a year-round plan that supports your pet’s holistic health, our veterinary team can catch any underlying diseases or health issues in its early stages. Just like for humans visiting the doctor, yearly trips to the veterinarian help support your pet’s well-being.

How often does my pet need a check-up?

We recommend your pet should have an appointment with us once a year. The frequency of these visits might increase, depending on your pet’s age and overall health. This includes a physical exam and might include a dental cleaning, depending on your pet’s oral health. The veterinarian will check the health of your pet from head to tail, and you will be very happy you came to Queen’s Park Pet Hospital for service. What should I bring to my pet’s visit?

If you can, it would be helpful to bring your pet’s medical history so we can document anything that might affect the care we provide. We recommend keeping a journal of your pet’s health throughout their lifetime, documenting behavioural changes, medications, health issues, etc. Also, consult other family members or people who take care of your dog who can give insights into their overall health. If you don’t have something like this, try to share any important information with our veterinary team and ask any questions you might have. Your veterinarian will work with whatever information you have to create the best care plan for your pet.

What else should I expect during a wellness exam?

During the wellness exam, our veterinary team is trying to get the best picture of your pet’s internal and external health, as well as how the two are connected. This could look like checking your furry friend’s weight and body condition, skin and coat quality, eyes, ears, thyroid, heart, lungs, joints, mouth and abdomen. We might also do diagnostic blood work and a parasite screening.
